Star Trek Drone

To coincide with the launch of Star Trek Beyond and the 50th Anniversary of the original TV Series Air Hogs launched their first Star Trek Enterprise Flying Drone.

The drone is based on the NCC-1701-A which is the Enterprise from the films instead of the TV Show.

The full Amazon listing description is Air Hogs, Star Trek U.S.S Enterprise NCC-1701-A, Remote Control Vehicle with Lights and Sounds, 2.4 GHZ, 4 Channel. Somewhat of a mouthful but I guess it covers all you would want to know.

How Much Will It Cost?
The Star Trek Drone has a suggested retail list price of $130 on Amazon. However it is now discounted to $34 on Amazon with a range of prices from 26 sellers on Amazon

Who Would Buy The Star Trek Enterprise Drone?
The recommended age for this item is 10+ years.

Being the first ever version of the Enterprise that really flies this will certainly be a need to buy item for Star Trek enthusiasts. Boys and girls who are just starting to discover Star Trek through the motion picture may also be intrigued by this.

For the determined drone enthusiast this most likely isn’t on their radar. Some might be interested in the unique design which separates it from the typical drones available on the local market. However, as noted later, it probably will not appeal to a real drone enthusiast because it is not really seriously robust.

Things We Like About Star Trek U.S.S Enterprise Drone.
A lot of thought has gone in to this model to make it appear realistic

It has 10 different light and sound functions including a phaser and warp factor sound.

Although it is longer and sleeker looking than the typical quadcopter it is still based on the same concepts. To get the Star Trek look they have concealed the spinning propellers in the main body of the Enterprise.

Though it does not look particularly durable some customers are claiming that they have dropped or crashed it a several times with no breakage. However this is only part of the story. Others have experienced broken propellers after only 3 flights.

Should it end up being a display model users say it looks great anyway on the cool stand that comes with the product.

Things We Didn’t Like About It.
If you have never flown a quadcopter or drone before it might take some time to get used to the controls. And while learning there will most likely be a few impacts.

A number of the Amazon reviewers say that the controller is awkward to use and the drone is difficult to control in flight. For some the resulting early crashes have broken a propeller and there are no spares supplied with the kit.

We would suggest limiting your flying to indoor use at first before venturing outdoors with it. In fact some of the reviewers suggest that its flying capability is not really suited to the outdoors because it lacks power.

Other reviewers are speculating that it will become a collector’s item so you might prefer to keep it in nice shape just in case.

Finally there is a Choking Hazard warning on Amazon for children under 3.

Is The Star Trek Enterprise Drone Worth The Money?
The $34 price tag makes it a really good buy for this specially designed Star Trek quadcopter. There are definitely a range of prices for it on Amazon

You can purchase a straight drone with a built in camera that works well for the original $130. Like this Holy Stone drone for $100 if all you want is a drone.

This is a unique Star Trek design and maybe a quadcopter that will become a collector’s object down the road. It also makes a nice display item for Star Trek fans or Drone Collectors.

Where Can I Buy The Star Trek U.S.S Enterprise Drone?
Spin Master and their Air Hogs flying RC range is readily available in most Toy Shops and RC Stores. Big online stores such as Amazon definitely have it available.

Amazon is always worth a look. You can always read the most up to date reviews from genuine customers.

Final Thoughts.
If you are a serious Trekkie the probability is that your mind is already made up regarding the purchase of this Star Trek Enterprise Quadcopter.

Those interested in TV collectibles may prefer to speculate and pick this up as a collector’s item.

To see your own real life miniature version of the Starship U.S.S Enterprise NCC-1701A cruising through the air boldly going where no man has gone before is just remarkable!

We think that Air Hogs have probably got the concept pretty right.

However consider this first before you finally decide. The current 368  reviews on Amazon give the product an average of 3.9 stars which is not bad.

It is listed as an Amazon Choice product which is a good sign.
